Associated Press (AP) Media API Updates 2024

The Associated Press news wire in America is changing the way it delivers news to broadcast newsrooms. The Web Feeds system that AP used for most a decade was retired in 2022 and was replaced by a Media API. In June 2024 the Media API will add additional security measures that require some customer to upgrade their AP feeds.

Burli’s newsroom systems support the AP Media API and the 2024 security changes.

Customers wishing to check whether their version of Burli works the the latest AP changes can contact the friendly team at support@burli.com for full details or a helping hand with the changes.

Burli and Windows 11

Burli is Windows 11 compatible and many newsrooms run Burli on Windows 11 in production with good success and no known issues.

Before you upgrade, one quick word of caution: we’ve heard anecdotally that some broadcast equipment – AoIP systems, audio hardware, USB devices, etc. – does not fully support Windows 11 yet. Before upgrading it’s worth double-checking that all the drivers and hardware that Burli uses on a given PC is also Windows 11 ready.

Log4J2 (aka Log4Shell, Log4J) vulnerability, December 2021

Burli Newsroom and Burli NE are NOT believed to be effected by the high severity vulnerability CVE-2021-44228 in the the Apache Log4j 2 utility. The issue was disclosed by Apache on December 9, 2021.

Burli does not use Java or the affected Java library. Read more…

Windows 7, Server 2008R2 End-of-Life, January 2020

Microsoft stopped all support for Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 in January 2020. If you’re still using either we strongly recommend upgrading to something newer. Burli works well with all recent versions of Windows 10.

Burli ended its official support for Windows 7 and Server 2008R2 at the same time that Microsoft did. We can no longer guarantee that updates to Burli products will run reliably (or at all) on Windows 7/2008R2.
